Something's Gotta Change

Why is it that virginity is something people so want to get rid of? Why is choosing to save yourself for marriage such a cliche thing?

People I have talked to have never said they regret saving themselves for marriage. Others I have talked to have said they wish they had saved themselves for marriage. Everyone wants their first time to be "special" and yet they generally regret it. People go around "losing" their virginity as if it's a set of keys.

What if that wasn't the way it's supposed to be? What if rather than "losing" your virginity, you gave it away to someone so specific you spent a crazy amount of time planning a wedding and getting married? What if you were so confidant in your choice and secure in the giving of your first time that you had not a bad feeling about it the morning after? What if "the morning after" was full of security and love, not regret and questions of "what's next, now that everything has changed?"

Those feelings of love and security are what God originally planned to go along with sex. He never intended for there to be any negative feelings. No regrets or doubts. But we have become such a self centered, "I want what feels good now" society that we have strayed so far from what God originally planned and think we know best. We think that because it feels good, we have every right to indulge in that.

But what if we went back to that original plan? What if we actually changed our outlook on sex not as something that just feels good but we actually viewed it as something special and sacred? What if we chose to save ourselves for one person. Not because it was easy, but because it was worth it.

If we changed the way we viewed sex, the feelings around it would change. People wouldn't waver on their perseverance to wait until their wedding night. There would be less unwanted pregnancies. There would be a decrease in STDs. Aren't those fights so many people wish they could fix?

So I guess the question comes down to, will you wait?
